Fortuity -heart wrenchingly beautiful

Updated: Jun 14, 2020

BLURB

Forty-something Gracelyn Glock is living the dream.

No husband.

No retirement plan.

And since her self-imposed man-ban—no need to shave above her knees.

After a tragic accident, Gracelyn inherits her ten-year-old nephew. She signs a lease on a San Diego beach house and learns their neighbors for the summer are a sexy anatomy professor and his young daughter.

Professor Nathaniel Hunt has spent the last decade being a single dad . . . and not having sex.

So when he discovers Gracelyn has a peculiar outdoor stripping ritual, a million inappropriate thoughts fill his responsible mind.

When kisses are stolen, man-bans are broken, and summer comes to an end, will hearts stay in one piece and hope stay alive? Or will saying goodbye destroy everything?

REVIEW

This book was devastatingly beautiful. I mean wow. Jewel E Ann is a favourite of mine and ‘Fortuity’ has only given me another reason to love her.

If you’ve read Transcend and Epoch, you should already be familiar with Nate’s story (if you haven’t, I strongly encourage you to, because they’re amazing; plus you’ll have a better understanding to some of the things Nate speaks about).

I was really looking forward to this book because I always felt Nate deserved a proper happily ever after.

Fortuity is the continuation of Nate’s story. His daughter, Morgan, is ten years old now and after years of travelling the world with her, he’s ready to settle down. On his last stop before heading home, he meets Gracelyn, who has recently become responsible for her 10 year old nephew, Gabe, after his parents pass.

They form a friendship and quickly, it grows into more. But, they only have the summer. What would happen when it’s over?

*read the book to find out*

Everything about this book was wonderful. From the main characters to the supporting ones, the setting, the beautiful plot. Everything.

What I loved most about this book though, is it conveyed what it means to suffer loss but fight for love so beautifully.

Both Nate and Gracelyn have suffered significant losses and of course it left them broken, but they are learning to find love and be happy again. It was a pleasure to read how they were able to cope with the pain and find new happiness, without the guilt of moving on.

I loved Nate as a dad. He was hopelessly devoted to Morgan and raised her in such a grounding way. That little girl was an absolute delight. She definitely made me laugh a couple times with her bluntness.

Parent Nate was great, but single Nate? S.E.X.Y. He was so manly and alpha but romantic and caring. He is officially a new book boyfriend.

Gracelyn was really cool too. I appreciated her approach towards raising Gabe. She was gentle and understanding plus she never hovered. She also never tried to step in and be his ‘new mom’. She gave him his space and let him know she was there whenever he needed her. Their heart-to-hearts made me emotional.

Gracelyn and Nate’s relationship was really moving to read. The entire book was moving.

I loved this one. I was so sad when it ended. I could keep reading Grace and Nate’s story forever. Sadly, all good things....

(ps: I lived for the Swayze cameo)

Happy Reading
